Description
Crispy mozzarella sticks filled with a creamy spinach mixture, perfect for parties or indulging at home.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 package (12 ounces) mozzarella string cheese sticks
- 1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well blended.
- Cut each mozzarella string cheese stick in half and take a generous portion of the spinach mixture to wrap around each cheese stick, covering it completely.
- Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs in separate shallow dishes. Dip each wrapped cheese stick into the flour, then the eggs, and finally the breadcrumbs. Set aside.
- Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat until it reaches around 350°F.
- Carefully add the breaded mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches. Fry for about 2–3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Make the spinach mixture a day in advance for convenience. For a healthier option, consider baking them at 400°F for 15-20 minutes instead of frying.
