- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500 grams chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup yogurt
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 2 teaspoons ginger-garlic paste
- 2 teaspoons garam masala
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 2–3 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat and add the cumin seeds.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until golden brown and caramelized.
- Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and slit green chilies.
- Introduce the chicken pieces into the pot, browning them to seal in flavors.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, allowing them to soften.
- Mix in the yogurt, garam masala, and salt, cooking until the chicken is done.
- Boil water in a separate pot, add the drained rice, and cook until just al dente.
- Layer the rice over the chicken in the pot and drizzle with heavy cream.
- Garnish with coriander, cover, and simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
