- 2 large onions, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the dry mixture by combining flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
- Pour the buttermilk into another bowl.
- Coat the onion rings by dipping them into the buttermilk, then into the flour mixture.
- Double dip the rings back into the buttermilk and then coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Fry the onion rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- Drain the fried onion rings on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
For extra crunch, let the coated onion rings rest before frying. Try air-frying for a healthier alternative.
