Ingredients

- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- Toppings: Lettuce, tomato, avocado, and cheese
Instructions
- Prep the beans by draining and rinsing the black beans under cold water.
- Sauté the aromatics by cooking chopped onions in a skillet for about 3 minutes, then adding minced garlic.
- Mash the beans in a mixing bowl, aiming for a rough texture.
- Combine the sautéed onions and garlic with the mashed beans and other ingredients.
- Form the mixture into four equal patties.
- Cook the patties in heated oil in a skillet for about 4–5 minutes on each side.
Notes
Feel free to prepare the mixture in advance and store in the fridge for up to two days. Consider using an air fryer or oven for cooking.
