Instructions
- Preheat your oven: Set it to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Add wet ingredients: Pour in the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Using an electric mixer, blend on medium speed for about two minutes until the batter is smooth and glossy.
- Incorporate boiling water: Carefully stir in the boiling water. Don’t worry if the batter seems thin; this is normal.
- Divide the batter: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes: Allow them to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Slice the layers: Once cool, carefully slice each cake in half horizontally, creating four layers.
- Layer your creation: Start with one layer on a serving plate, spread cherry pie filling and then top with whipped cream.
- Repeat: Continue layering with the remaining cake, cherry filling, and whipped cream until finished.
- Finish with flair: Top the final layer with chocolate shavings.
