Description

A delightful and indulgent recipe for French toast made with rich brioche bread, topped with whipped cream and fresh berries.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Brioche bread or French bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp maple syrup extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (for frying)
  • 2 cups mixed berries
  • 1 cup whipped cream (for serving)
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, maple syrup extract, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until creamy.
  2. Preheat your frying pan or griddle over medium-low heat and add 1½ to 2 tablespoons of butter.
  3. Slice the brioche bread into ¾ inch thick slices.
  4. Dip each slice into the custard, allowing it to soak and draining off excess before placing it on the pan.
  5. Fry the French toast in batches for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Transfer cooked slices to a warm tray while finishing remaining batches.
  7. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream, maple syrup, vibrant berries, and powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Make-ahead tip: Prepare the custard the night before and store it in the refrigerator, whisking again before cooking.
