- 1 loaf Brioche bread or French bread
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp maple syrup extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup butter (for frying)
- 2 cups mixed berries
- 1 cup whipped cream (for serving)
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, maple syrup extract, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl until creamy.
- Preheat your frying pan or griddle over medium-low heat and add 1½ to 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Slice the brioche bread into ¾ inch thick slices.
- Dip each slice into the custard, allowing it to soak and draining off excess before placing it on the pan.
- Fry the French toast in batches for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Transfer cooked slices to a warm tray while finishing remaining batches.
- Serve warm, topped with whipped cream, maple syrup, vibrant berries, and powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Make-ahead tip: Prepare the custard the night before and store it in the refrigerator, whisking again before cooking.
