- 1 package of hot dogs
- 1 cup of shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- 1 ½ cups warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup baking soda
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add salt and flour to the yeast mixture, and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut it into strips long enough to wrap around each hot dog.
- Place a piece of cheese inside each hot dog, then wrap the dough around the hot dog.
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil each wrapped hot dog for about 30 seconds, then place them on a baking sheet.
- Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add spices to the dough.
- Serve with mustard or cheese sauce for dipping.
- These can be made ahead and frozen for later use.
