- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)

- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup cream cheese (softened)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract for filling
- Sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
- Add the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Scoop tablespoons of dough and roll them into balls; place on a baking sheet.
- Make an indentation in the center of each dough ball using your thumb.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until set.
- Prepare the cream cheese filling by mixing cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Fill the centers of the cooled cookies with the cream cheese mixture.
- Dust with sugar before serving.
Notes
These cookies can be made ahead of time and frozen. You can substitute the cream cheese filling with chocolate ganache if desired.
