- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt (for topping)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Divide the dough into equal pieces and shape them into pretzel forms.
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of melted butter to the dough.
- Serve with mustard or cheese dip for a delicious snack.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
