Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns (brioche or artisan)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Lettuce and tomato for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside on paper towels.
  2. In the same skillet, add onions to the bacon drippings and cook until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together maple syrup, bourbon, apple cider vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce for BBQ sauce.
  4. Form ground beef into four patties and season with salt and pepper.
  5. Cook the patties in the skillet for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness.
  6. In the last minute of cooking, brush BBQ sauce over each patty.
  7. Assemble the burgers: place the patty on a toasted bun, top with bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, and tomato.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!
