Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions, sugar, and salt; cook until the onions are caramelized, about 20-25 minutes.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface and place it on a baking sheet.
- Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the pastry.
- Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese on top of the onions.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over to create a border.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before slicing and serving.
