Description
A classic French dessert, the Chocolate Yule Log (Bûche de Noël) is a rich chocolate cake rolled with a creamy filling, decorated to resemble a log.

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup chocolate shavings (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a jelly roll pan.
- In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool, then carefully roll it up in a clean kitchen towel.
- For the filling, whip the heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Unroll the cake, spread the whipped cream filling, and roll it back up.
- Frost the outside with remaining whipped cream and decorate with chocolate shavings.
Notes
- Make sure to roll the cake while it’s still warm to prevent cracking.
- Chill the Yule log in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
- Feel free to add festive decorations like berries or mint leaves.
