- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
- Fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full with the batter.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the donuts cool for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and brown sugar together.
- Sprinkle the sugar mixture on top of the warm donuts and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden and crispy.
- Allow the donuts to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla bean paste to the batter.
- Make sure to use a kitchen torch carefully to avoid burning the sugar.
